Pietro Maso (San Bonifacio, 17 luglio 1971) è un crimi nale italiano.

È il protagonista reo confesso di uno dei più clamorosi casi di omicidio a sfondo familiare della cronaca italiana. Aiutato da tre amici, il 17 aprile 1991 nella sua casa di Montecchia di Crosara uccise entrambi i suoi genitori, Antonio Maso e Rosa Tessari, servendosi di un tubo di ferro e di altri corpi contundenti. La motivazione era intascare subito la sua parte di eredità. Fu condannato a 30 anni di reclusione, scontata in carcere fino ad ottobre 2008, quando ha ottenuto il regime di semilibertà.

Biografia [modifica]

Nato a San Bonifacio ma sempre vissuto a Montecchia di Crosara, entrambi in provincia di Verona, Pietro Maso è il terzo e ultimo figlio di Antonio Maso (56 anni) e Rosa Tessari (48 anni) dopo due femmine di nome Nadia e Laura. I genitori sono molto religiosi anche se non eccessivamente rigidi; Pietro stesso fa il chierichetto da bambino e frequenta la prima media in seminario. La sua vita scorre normale fino a circa un anno prima del delitto, quando alla scuola (abbandonata al terzo anno dell'istituto agrario) ed a lavori del tutto insoddisfacenti, il giovane comincia a preferire un modo di vivere ben più stimolante ed a lui congeniale, facendo una vita consumistica da viveur.

Lavora come intermediario di una concessionaria d’auto quando scopre la vita notturna di alcuni locali pubblici del veronese e dello stesso capoluogo scaligero; gioca d’azzardo al Casinò di Venezia. Il suo amico più caro, nonché principale complice del delitto, è Giorgio Carbognin, 18 anni. A lui si uniranno anche il diciottenne Paolo Cavazza e l'unico minore del gruppo, Damiano Burato, che avrebbe raggiunto la maggiore età due mesi dopo.

Pianificazione del delitto e tentativi non riusciti [modifica]

Le prime riflessioni sul disegno criminale risalgono a circa sei mesi prima, nell'autunno del 1990. Pietro non ha problemi, coi genitori; dichiarerà che le discussioni in famiglia non erano fuori dall’ordinario, e che a loro voleva bene. Negli ultimi mesi, però, i genitori si mostrano preoccupati più del dovuto, poiché Pietro ha lasciato da poco un lavoro dipendente come commesso in un supermercato; la collaborazione nelle concessionarie auto è solo saltuaria e le sue uscite serali e possibili compagnie dubbie fanno temere Antonio e soprattutto Rosa. È infatti la madre, che due volte in poco tempo, scopre due fatti.

Il 3 marzo, la signora Maso trova, nella taverna del villino in cui abita col marito e il figlio, due bombole di gas. Accanto ad esse vi sono una centralina di luci psichedeliche che si accendono nel captare un forte suono (l'uso è nelle feste in casa privata, se si vuole creare un effetto da discoteca con la musica) e una sveglia puntata sulle nove e trenta, vale a dire pochi minuti dopo la scoperta. La cosa ancora più strana sono un mucchio di vestiti che ostruiscono il camino. Pietro dirà poi che serviva tutto per una festa, che le bombole avrebbero dovuto alimentare due stufe per il riscaldamento e che quella sveglia l'aveva trovata nella macchina e, n

on interessandogli, se n'era voluto disfare posandola distrattamente sul tavolo

della taverna.

In realtà l'insieme di quegli oggetti avrebbe dovuto causare la distruzione della casa; le bombole sarebbero infatti dovute esplodere, dopo aver sprigionato gran parte del loro gas nella taverna, per via delle scintille causate dall'accensione delle lampadine psichedeliche, a loro volta alimentate dall'impulso sonoro della sveglia una volta scattate le ore nove e trenta. L'esplosione non è avvenuta poiché le sicure delle bombole erano state tolte, ma le loro manopole erano rimaste chiuse. A causa della sua inesperienza pratica, Pietro no

n porta quindi a termine il suo primo piano di sterminare la famiglia.

Pochi giorni prima del delitto, Rosa trova diverse banconote nella tasca di un paio di pantaloni di Pietro Maso. Subito gliene chiede conto; il figlio si era appena licenziato anche dall'autosalone e quindi difficilmente avrebbe potuto procurarsele onestamente. Sospettando un suo coinvolgimento in qualche losco affare, la madre insiste, così Pietro prova a tirar fuori come giustificazione che si trattava di una sorta delle ultime prov

vigioni che il suo ultimo datore di lavoro gli doveva ancora, e anzi le propone di andarglielo a chiedere all'autosalone. Rosa accetta e si fa accompagnare in automobile dal figlio e da Giorgio Carbognin, armato di uno schiaccia-bistecche da scagliare sul capo della donna prima che arrivino a destinazione.

Giorgio non ha il coraggio di agire, così Pietro è costretto a inventarsi un'altra menzogna sulle banconote affinché Rosa rinunci a parlare col proprietario dell'autosalone. Quei soldi li avrebbe avuti da un conoscente che aveva scoperto, casualmente, essere responsab

ile di un traffico di computer; questo conoscente lo avrebbe pagato perché non lo denunciasse. Rosa vuole credere a questa versione, ma la sua preoccupazione continua.

Un terzo tentativo vede Giorgio Carbognin ancora una volta rinunciatario; avrebbe dovuto colpire i genitori di Pietro nel garage di casa loro, con Pietro. Il quarto progetto, al quale prendono parte anche Cavazza e Burato, avrà invece successo.

Il delitto [modifica]

Prologo [modifica]

Le banconote ritrovate dalla madre di Maso provenivano da un prestito b

ancario (24 milioni di lire) chiesto da Giorgio Carbognin, per il quale aveva fatto da garante il suo datore di lavoro Aleardo Confente. I soldi, in origine, servono al giovane per acquistare una Lancia Delta, usata ma come nuova; successivamente però, la famiglia di Giorgio si oppone all'acquisto. Il ragazzo ubbidisce e rinuncia all'automobile, ma non restituisce subito il denaro alla banca, e con Pietro, lo utilizza in ristoranti di lusso, bar e gioiellerie.

Al momento della restituzione, Carbognin ricorre a vari tentativi di procurarsi il denaro, ma tutti falliscono. Pietro, allora, decide di staccare un assegno del conto intestato alla madre, imitandone la firma e consegnando così 25 milioni all'amico. Il delitto deve quindi essere messo in atto prima che la signora Rosa si accorga dell'ammanco.

Esecuzione [modifica]

Il delitto avviene nella notte fra il 17 e il 18 aprile 1991. Quella sera Maso, Carbognin, Cavazza e Burato si ritrovano nel bar di Montecchia che usavano frequentare, e discutono gli ultimi dettagli. Un loro amico, Michele, è informato del progetto affinché ne prenda parte, ma crede che i quattro ragazzi stiano scherzando. Quando poi i ragazzi lasciano il bar, Michele

li accompagna in casa di Pietro, ma seguita a non credere, finché decide di rinunciare. Alle 23, i genitori di Pietro non si trovano ancora in casa, poiché stanno tornando da Lonigo dove avevano preso parte a un incontro dei neo-catecumenali.

Pietro è al corrente di questo in quanto aveva domandato al padre il

prestito della sua automobile per recarsi in discoteca. Sa quindi che a minuti, i genitori faranno ritorno a casa. Alle 23.10 infatti l'auto giunge nel garage. Antonio accende la luce ma si accorge che manca la corrente. Così sale le scale per raggiungere, al primo piano, il contatore. Giunto in cucina, viene subito colpito dal figlio, armato di un tubo di ferro; Damiano lo colpisce a sua volta con una pentola. Poco dopo arriva Rosa e viene aggredita da Paolo e Giorgio, armati rispettivamente di un bloccasterzo e un'altra pentola. La madre di Pietro non muore sul colpo, così il figlio interviene e oltre a colpirla lui stesso,cerca di soffocarla mettendole i

n gola del cotone e chiudendole la faccia in un sacchetto di nylon.Nel frattempo Paolo si accanisce contro il signor Maso premendogli il piede sulla gola. Cinquantatre minuti dopo i primi colpi, le due vittime cessano definitivamente di respirare.

A delitto compiuto, i ragazzi si disfano degli oggetti serviti allo scopo, e anche delle tute utilizzate per proteggersi dal sangue. Da notare che Burato, Carbognin e Cavazza avevano indossato delle maschere. Paolo e Damiano rientrano a casa. Pietro, invece, ha bisogno di crearsi un alibi, così con Giorgio si reca in due diverse discoteche (nella prima non riescono ad entra

re perché piena). Alle 2 del mattino rientra a casa per fare la finta scoperta. Avverte i vicini di aver visto, salendo le scale, "due gambe". Appare scosso e impaurito. Uno dei vicini entra in casa, sale le scale e scopre la scena.

Indagini giudiziarie [modifica]

Dapprima, come si auguravano i ragazzi, viene battuta la pista di un omicidio a scopo di rapina. Ma ci si accorge ben presto che si trattava di un furto simulato. Un carabiniere anziano sospetta di un particolare: i cassetti sono stati trovati aperti e il contenuto gettato intorno alla stanza quando un ladro, di solito, usa aprirli, limitarsi a cercarvi denaro e roba di valore e poi richiuderli. Questo e altri aspetti deviano gli inquirenti verso la pista più atroce, che l'assassino sia appunto il figlio, il cui atteggiamento, tra l'altro non pare tanto simile allo choc, alla rabbia ed alla disperazione che colpiscono chi apprende di aver perso entrambi i genitori.

Le stesse sorelle, Nadia e Laura, ne sono chiaramente stupite, e devono lor ma

lgrado rendersi più sospette allorché Laura si accorge dell'uscita di 25 milioni dal conto della madre e trova, lo stesso giorno, la firma falsa di Rosa Maso e la scritta della cifra per esteso sulla rubrica telefonica di casa; Pietro le rivela dell'assegno intestato a Giorgio Carbognin, aggiunge che era stata la loro madre a firmarlo, ma non sa spiegare il perché di quelle scritte di prova sulla rubrica.

Queste e altre incongruenze vengono fuori di ora in ora, così come le contraddizioni di Pietro durante i numerosi interrogatori. Stanco e pressato dagli inquirenti, il ragazzo confessa a tarda sera del 19 aprile, due giorni dopo il delitto. A ruota, anche i tre amici ammettono le loro responsabilità.

Conseguenze giudiziarie [modifica]

Tutti vengono arrestati per omicidio volontario, accusa che a chiusura d'istruttoria diventerà duplice omicidio volontario premeditato pluriaggravato. Le aggravanti sono infatti la crudeltà, i futili motivi e, per Pietro, anche il vincolo di parentela. Per la perizia psichiatrica, richiesta dal pubblico ministero Mario Giulio Schinaia, viene chiamato lo psichiatra, docente e scrittore veronese Vittorino Andreoli.

Il responso del professore contempla la sanità mentale per tutti e tre gli imputati (Burato, non essendo ancora diciottenne, verrà giudicato dal tribunale dei minori che lo condannerà a 13 anni) e quindi la piena capacità di intendere e di volere. Nello specifico caso di Maso, leader indiscusso oltre che figlio delle vittime, Andreoli parla di disturbo narcisistico della personalità, ma non si tratta di vera e propria infermità. Al processo, presso la Corte d'Assise di Verona, il pubblico ministero chiede quindi il massimo della pena per Maso e poco meno di trent'anni per gli altri due. La sentenza viene emessa il 29 febbraio 1992, con la condanna di Pietro Maso a 30 anni e 2 mesi di reclusione; Cavazza e Carbognin sono condannati a 26 anni ciascuno. Nelle motivazioni vi è il riconoscimento di un parziale vizio di mente.

Ad alimentare l'indignazione pubblica vi è pure l'atteggiamento freddo e distaccato dei tre imputati al processo. Oltretutto, per diversi mesi, Maso pretende insistentemente la propria parte di eredità; solo il sollecito del suo avvocato difensore, al fine di accrescere la possibilità di evitare l'ergastolo in primo grado, lo convincerà a rinunciarvi ufficialmente.

In secondo grado, la Corte d'Appello di Venezia conferma la sentenza del primo. La Corte di Cassazione conferma poi a propria volta. Le pene passano quindi in giudicato.

Conseguenze mediatiche [modifica]

Il "caso Maso", naturalmente, è all'origine di numerosi dibattiti in giornali e televisioni. Da sedici anni, per la cronaca (la diciottenne vercellese Doretta Graneris, che nel 1975 assieme al fidanzato uccise padre, madre, nonni e fratellino), non si registrava un caso simile in grandezza e gravità fra quelli i cui colpevoli avessero meno di 20 anni, e qualcosa del genere accadrà solo dieci anni dopo col delitto di Novi Ligure.
